CHALLENGES


 

A worldwide manufacturer of bearings located in Bulgaria was looking to improve performances related to their grinding operations with a traditional, single-component metalworking fluid. They were specifically looking to alleviate the following problems:

  • Frequent corrosion on parts after machining
  • Tramp oil pollution in their central system which caused regular emulsion stability problems

 

THE SOLUTION


 

Quaker introduced the advanced two-part coolant/cleaner technology 2PAQ™ – QUAKERCOOL® OIL HR & QUAKERCOOL® W ALCA FF after analyzing the customer’s issues involving corrosion, tramp oil pollution and eventually costs savings.

It was decided to implement 2PAQ™ without dump (2PAQ™ has been added on top of current product) and to carefully monitor it : monthly Quaker lab analysis and technical support were provided, including staff training and setting up of the customer laboratory analytical procedures. Over time, it was shown that improvements in corrosion and reduction in costs were realized.

  • Eliminated corrosion issues
  • 11% cost savings on products (with 30 additional CNC machines compared to the reference period)
  • Improvement of tramp oil management
    • Tramp oil level below 1.5% threshold (level where they had to perform partial dump before)
  • Better biostability
    • 75% less biocide additions required
    • pH stable at 9.0
    • Drastically reduced dumping of the system (no dump since 3 years)
  • Improved cleanliness of machines and tools
    • Less grinding wheels dressing
    • Tool cost savings of about 10%
